Statue of Unity
On October 31st, 2018, the world’s tallest statue – the Statue of Unity – was inaugurated against the stunning backdrop of the Satpura and Vindhyachal hills at Kevadia, Gujarat. Standing 182 meters high, it is dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of independent India. The grand monument rises above the River Narmada, overlooking its wide basin and the impressive Sardar Sarovar Dam. It is built on the Sadhu Bet hillock, connected to the mainland by a 300-metre bridge that allows visitors easy access to the site.
The Statue of Unity offers many attractions, making it a major center for cultural and eco-tourism. Visitors can enjoy the nightly Laser Light and Sound Show narrating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy. The colourful Valley of Flowers, with over two million plants, and the mighty Sardar Sarovar Dam, the world’s second-largest gravity dam by concrete volume, are other major highlights.
